The Pitt's Season 2 finale hit a series high with 9.7M viewers. Discover why the HBO Max medical drama's popularity is surging over 50%.
- April 21, 2026
AceShowbiz - The conclusion of The Pitt season two marked the series’ highest audience to date. The medical drama’s finale, which aired on April 16, attracted an impressive 9.7 million viewers on HBO Max over the weekend, surpassing the viewership of all previous 29 episodes across both seasons.
This finale's audience count showed a significant increase compared to the season two premiere in January, which garnered 5.4 million viewers within three days and reached 7.2 million after a full week of streaming. The growth highlights the show’s rising popularity among HBO Max audiences.
According to HBO, season two is currently averaging 15.4 million viewers per episode since its premiere, marking an improvement of more than 50 percent compared to the first season in 2025. HBO and HBO Max typically track viewing figures for 90 days after a season premiere; however, because The Pitt features 15 weekly episodes, the current measurement period extends slightly longer to 98 days.
By comparison, Nielsen’s 35-day tracking for season one reported an average of 6.18 million viewers per episode, a metric that differs significantly from HBO’s internal data. Nielsen’s weekly streaming totals for The Pitt so far this year have consistently outperformed last season’s numbers.
Based on HBO’s internal audience data, The Pitt now ranks as the sixth ongoing HBO/HBO Max series to average 15 million or more viewers per episode throughout its run. It joins an elite group that includes House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Last of Us, and It: Welcome to Derry.
Before the second season even premiered, HBO Max renewed The Pitt for a third season, demonstrating confidence in the show’s continued success. The network also aims to replicate the 15-episode season model with two new projects currently in pilot development. These include How to Survive Without Me, a family drama executive produced by Greg Berlanti and starring Joshua Jackson, Kaley Cuoco, and Ray Romano, as well as American Blue, a crime drama featuring Milo Ventimiglia.
The impressive viewership growth and early renewal signal a strong future for The Pitt as it continues to engage audiences with its compelling storytelling and high production values.
