AceShowbiz - The trailer for Netflix's new thriller series Man on Fire has been released, featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a tormented former special forces mercenary. The series is set to premiere on April 30.
John Creasy is portrayed as a man struggling with severe PTSD after serving three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The story unfolds in Rio de Janeiro, where Creasy battles external threats while confronting his inner demons. His mission centers on avenging the death of his closest friend and protecting that friend's daughter from dangerous forces that shattered her family.
The teaser trailer delivers a grim warning from Creasy: "Let me be very clear. You're not gonna survive this." This chilling line sets the tone for a series based on the novels by A.J. Quinnell. The original Man on Fire novel, published in 1980, was followed by four more books in the series: The Perfect Kill (1992), The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996), all featuring the character Creasy.
The Netflix adaptation draws from both Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill, expanding the story for a new audience. The project is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Kyle Killen, who wrote the series. It is produced by New Regency Productions, Chernin Entertainment, and Killen’s Chapter Eleven banner.
Joining Abdul-Mateen II in the cast are Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor, all adding depth to the ensemble. The series promises a gritty and intense narrative, continuing the legacy of the 2004 feature film that starred Denzel Washington and grossed $130 million worldwide—more than double its $60 million budget.
The executive production team includes notable names such as Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Scott Pennington, Steven Caple Jr., Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, Abdul-Mateen II himself, and Stacy Perskie, reflecting a strong collaborative effort behind the scenes.
Man on Fire promises to bring a fresh yet faithful take on the iconic story of vengeance and redemption, focusing on a deeply flawed hero driven by loss and the desire to protect. Fans of the novels and the original film alike will likely find much to anticipate in this new Netflix adaptation.
