AceShowbiz - The anthology horror series The Terror is returning after a seven-year hiatus with a chilling new chapter titled The Terror: Devil in Silver. The third season was announced in March 2026 and features a dark storyline centered around a demonic villain haunting the halls of a psychiatric hospital. The show, produced by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott, first premiered in 2018 adapting Dan Simmons' novel The Terror, which follows a doomed Arctic expedition trapped in ice.
Season 2, titled The Terror: Infamy, shifted the narrative to a Japanese internment camp during World War II and debuted in 2019. The original season remains highly acclaimed, holding an 87% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, The Terror returns with six episodes under the creative leadership of showrunners and writers Chris Cantwell, Victor LaValle, and Karyn Kusama.
The newly released trailer for The Terror: Devil in Silver introduces us to Dan Stevens’ character, Pepper, a compassionate stepfather. However, after a violent altercation with his partner’s aggressive ex, Pepper is wrongfully institutionalized at New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. There, he confronts disturbed patients, manipulative doctors, and a sinister demonic presence linked to a mysterious silver door within the facility.
Alongside his lead role, Stevens also serves as an executive producer, working closely with Ridley Scott and the creative team. The season’s first two episodes are directed by Karyn Kusama, known for her acclaimed work on the series Yellowjackets. The Terror: Devil in Silver will debut on AMC+ and Shudder on May 7, with weekly episodes following. The season will later air on AMC.
The ensemble cast supporting Stevens includes notable actors such as Judith Light, Aasif Mandvi, Hampton Fluker, CCH Pounder, Chinaza Uche, Stephen Root, Hayward Leach, John Benjamin Hickey, Michael Aronov, Philip Ettinger, and Marin Ireland. The setting of a psychiatric hospital evokes some similarities to Stevens’ role in FX’s Legion, although this season leans heavily into supernatural horror rather than alternate timelines and mutant powers.
Stevens is widely recognized for his performances in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast as the Beast and as Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey. His involvement as both lead actor and executive producer highlights his deep commitment to this new season of The Terror.
Ridley Scott, an executive producer since the series’ inception, is renowned for directing iconic films such as Alien, Thelma & Louise, and Gladiator. His influence helps maintain the series’ cinematic quality and atmospheric tension.
Behind the scenes, the creative team boasts impressive credentials. Karyn Kusama directed the pilot and the impactful season 2 finale of Yellowjackets. Chris Cantwell co-created and co-showruns Halt and Catch Fire, and Victor LaValle is the author of the novel The Changeling, which inspired an Apple TV+ adaptation. Together, they bring a fresh yet masterful approach to this season’s narrative.
The Terror: Devil in Silver launches with a two-episode premiere on May 7 via AMC+ and Shudder, followed by weekly episode releases. Fans of horror and psychological thrillers can anticipate a gripping blend of supernatural dread and intense character drama as the series explores the dark secrets behind the silver door and the malevolent forces within New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.
