AceShowbiz - Mark Pitts has officially stepped down from his role as president of RCA Records and announced the launch of Cofvnders, a new multi-media management company. The announcement came on Tuesday, April 14, and revealed that Cofvnders recently played a key role in producing the co-headline tour featuring Usher and Chris Brown, in partnership with Live Nation.
Though stepping away from RCA Records’ presidency, Pitts will continue his affiliation with the label and Sony Music as a consultant, according to an official press release.
Reflecting on his departure, Pitts stated, "I'm proud of everything we built at RCA." He expressed gratitude for having influenced the careers of numerous significant artists and emphasized the importance of guiding young talent both in their professional and personal lives, calling this his legacy. He also shared enthusiasm for his new venture with Cofvnders and reiterated his commitment to maintaining ties with RCA and Sony Music. With over 25 years in the music industry, Pitts said he feels energized about this new chapter.
In addition to Cofvnders, Pitts has teamed up with entertainment attorney and entrepreneur Tamayu Takayama to establish the Tokyo Sound Continuum, a songwriting initiative designed to bridge U.S. producers with Japanese songwriters, producers, and artists. This program is backed by the Agency for Cultural Affairs under the Japanese government through the Creator Support Fund.
The press release detailed that the Tokyo Sound Continuum aims to create a long-term ecosystem to export Japanese talent globally, supported by a network of top-tier international executives aligned from creation through release.
Pitts was promoted to president of RCA Records in 2021 after previously serving as president of urban music at the label. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in shaping the careers of iconic artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Usher, Miguel, J. Cole, and Chris Brown, whom he signed to RCA in 2004. His influence was recognized last year when he was named to Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players list.
During his time at RCA, Pitts also held the dual role of CEO of ByStorm Entertainment, a joint venture with RCA that he founded in 1998. He maintained this CEO position until his departure from RCA.
The new company, Cofvnders, will operate from offices in New York City and Los Angeles, positioning itself as a major player in multimedia management and production.
This transition marks a significant shift for Pitts, who has spent decades at the forefront of the music industry, now focusing on expanding his influence through innovative artist management and international collaboration initiatives.
