AceShowbiz - Fjord introduces a striking new look for Sebastian Stan, who has shed his iconic Winter Soldier hairstyle for a bold transformation in this upcoming drama. Alongside Oscar-nominated actress Renate Reinsve, Stan stars as part of a European couple navigating life in a remote Norwegian village.
In Fjord, Stan and Reinsve portray Mihai and Lisbet Gheorghiu, a Romanian family who relocate to a secluded community in Norway. The story focuses on their interactions with the local Halberg family and takes a suspenseful turn as their children come under suspicion for unusual behavior, making them the center of attention in the small town.
Snowglobe has released the first official image from the film, showcasing Stan and Reinsve with their four children posed against the stunning backdrop of Norwegian mountains. The photo highlights Stan’s dramatic new appearance as the family patriarch.
The film is directed and written by Cristian Mungiu, the acclaimed filmmaker who earned the Palme d'Or in 2007 for his film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Fjord has been selected to compete in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
This movie adds to Stan’s growing list of roles that demand significant physical transformations. Recently, he portrayed Donald J. Trump in the 2024 film The Apprentice, where he gained at least 15 pounds and adopted a distinct blonde hairstyle. His performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Other notable transformations include his portrayal of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in Pam & Tommy, where he underwent multiple piercings and tattoos, and his role as Jeff Gillooly in I, Tonya, where he sported a distinctive mustache. Despite these varied looks, Stan is best known for his role as the Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he frequently appeared with long hair.
Stan is set to reprise his role as the Winter Soldier in Avengers: Doomsday. Beyond Marvel, he is expanding his presence in Hollywood by stepping into the DC universe, having been cast in The Batman: Part II. Rumors suggest he may play the villain Harvey Dent/Two-Face, reuniting him with fellow Marvel star Scarlett Johansson.
With Fjord expected to premiere, Stan will likely attend Cannes to promote the film. While an official release date has not yet been announced, Neon holds the U.S. distribution rights.
