AceShowbiz - Tickets are now available for Michael, the highly anticipated and controversial biopic about Michael Jackson, which is set to premiere on April 24, 2026. Alongside the ticket release, the filmmakers have unveiled the final trailer, offering fans a last look before the film hits theaters.
This trailer notably features a recreation of the legendary "Thriller" music video, originally directed by John Landis, which was once hailed as a pinnacle of music video artistry. Another standout element is the use of computer-generated imagery to bring to life Bubbles, Jackson's famous pet chimpanzee. This CGI portrayal has drawn comparisons to the style seen in the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man. Interestingly, Taika Waititi had previously been involved with a stop-motion project titled Bubbles, which would have told Jackson's story through the perspective of the chimp; however, that film was canceled following the resurfacing of allegations against Jackson in the 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland.
The film stars Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson, portraying the King of Pop during pivotal moments from his youth. The narrative culminates around the time of the release of Jackson's Bad album, intentionally avoiding some of the more controversial aspects of his life and personality. Alongside Jaafar Jackson, the cast includes Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Larenz Tate. The project is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan.
Significant changes were made to the film during production, including a scrapped third act that led to major rewrites and additional filming. These revisions caused the budget to reportedly rise to approximately $200 million and pushed the release date back multiple times—from an initial April 2025 date to October 2025, and now finally to April 24, 2026.
Michael is set to premiere in theaters on April 24, 2026, offering audiences a dramatized glimpse into the early career and life of one of pop music’s most iconic figures.
