AceShowbiz - The upcoming 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will once again spotlight a select group of filmmakers through the fourth edition of the Cannes Investors Circle, an initiative designed to connect private investors with high-end film projects. This year’s event will present eight carefully curated feature films from notable auteurs, including the directors behind The Girl With the Needle, The Ties That Bind Us, and The Settlers, along with the screenwriter of the Palme d'Or-winning film Dheepan.
The Cannes Investors Circle 2026, scheduled for May 16 and 17 at the Plage des Palmes—the official beachside venue of the Marché du Film—offers a private, invitation-only platform for VIP investors to engage with fresh and diverse cinematic projects. Organizers emphasize that this edition includes previously unseen features by visionary directors and leading producers, focusing particularly on European talent alongside a broad international representation.
"This year's curated lineup reflects the breadth of contemporary international cinema," the Marché du Film stated, highlighting the range of budgets for these films, which vary from €1.0 million ($1.2 million) to over €12 million ($13.9 million). The projects demonstrate a spectrum of artistic approaches and narrative styles, promising a rich and varied selection for investors.
While the specific titles or working names of the projects to be presented remain undisclosed, the program builds on the success of previous editions. Last year’s Cannes Investors Circle facilitated real investment outcomes, helping projects like Gentle Monster by Marie Kreutzer and Poeta Chileno by Sebastián Lelio secure financing. Additionally, filmmakers involved with the initiative have been featured in prestigious festival selections worldwide.
Guillaume Esmiol, executive director of the Marché du Film, shared that for 2026 the selection process has been further refined to maintain a high standard of quality and innovation. He also revealed plans to expand the initiative beyond Cannes through year-round activities, citing a recent workshop held in Trieste during the When East Meets West film event as an example.
The program’s head, Alexandra Zakharchenko, explained that the projects chosen represent a deliberate effort to include films at various stages of development and financing, across a wide range of genres and budget sizes. She noted a growing emphasis on genre-driven films with strong creative identities that are ready to engage with private investors and exhibit clear market potential.
The 2026 selection committee included industry figures such as Céline Dornier (content executive at IPR.VC), Jean des Forêts (founder & CEO of Petit Film), Alice Laffillé (VP of international sales at FilmNation Entertainment), and Anthony Muir (senior executive for international co-productions at Film i Väst), collaborating with Zakharchenko to oversee the process.
Among the directors featured at the 2026 Cannes Investors Circle are:
