AceShowbiz - This past weekend, Mumford & Sons returned to Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, showcasing two songs from their latest album, Prizefighter.
The English folk-rock group opened their set with "Rubber Band Man," a track that includes contributions from Irish artist Hozier and was co-written by Brandi Carlile. Joining the band onstage were Hozier himself and co-producer Aaron Dessner of The National, adding depth to the live rendition.
Frontman Marcus Mumford shared his admiration for the new record months before its release, calling it his favorite album to date. He explained to People magazine, "It's like we got to this stage in our careers where we're comfortable in our skin now, and so we can talk straight."
"This is the straightest-talking record I think we have. And so it's the closest to the essence of who we are, honestly. And that's why I love it so much, because it feels like representing that on record can be really hard and really challenging, and you can get most of the way to success. But there's always edifice, I think, and this one doesn't feel like it has much of that in it. It's just f-ing us and our mates, and that's what our band is."
Co-founder and bassist Ted Dwane praised Dessner's role in shaping the album's sound. "Dessner, he just feels like a real ally," Dwane said, noting their long-standing admiration for The National. They initially connected with Dessner during the production of their third album, Wilder Mind.
The second song performed on SNL was "Here," the opening track of Prizefighter. This performance featured country star Chris Stapleton, with additional support from Dessner and singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell, who joined the stage alongside the band.
These performances highlighted the collaborative spirit and evolving sound of Mumford & Sons as they promote their upcoming album.
