AceShowbiz - The longtime producer of The Price Is Right, Roger Dobkowitz, has publicly defended the iconic host Bob Barker following allegations raised in the recent E! docuseries Dirty Rotten Scandals. The six-part series devoted two episodes to the CBS daytime game show, featuring interviews with former employees and “Barker’s Beauties” models who claimed to have witnessed or experienced sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, racism, and a hostile work environment during their time on the show.

Bob Barker, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 99, consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout his life. His longtime representative, Roger Neal, also reaffirmed Barker’s positive reputation with a statement released shortly after the docuseries aired, calling him “beloved” both then and now.

Roger Dobkowitz, who produced more than 4,650 episodes over four decades and is considered a veteran of The Price Is Right, revealed that although many friends urged him to comment on Dirty Rotten Scandals, he initially declined. Dobkowitz did not want to add “social traction to such an obvious ‘hit piece’,” hoping it would quietly fade away like other exposés. However, after observing that the series did not gain significant traction, he felt it was appropriate to share his perspective and defend the “dignity and integrity” of the show.

On his Facebook page, Dobkowitz expressed frustration with the allegations, stating, “This so-called 'exposé' makes me realize that there are some people in this world who will happily exaggerate and create falsehoods in order to justify a personal hateful vendetta against a person in order to draw attention to themselves.” He further criticized the timing of the accusations since the accused, Barker, is deceased and therefore unable to defend himself. He added, “The adjective ‘brave’ should never be used in reference to a person attacking a dead person.”

Dobkowitz emphasized the importance of closure, noting that most people move on after disputes are settled in court. He suggested that repeatedly bringing up past issues decades later may indicate a problem with one’s ability to reason maturely.

Looking ahead, Dobkowitz hinted at the possibility of writing a book detailing his 36 years of experience working with Barker. He said the book would “clear up lots of misconceptions and dismiss any wrongful accusations” connected to the show’s history.

According to Dobkowitz, The Price Is Right was a happy and positive working environment, one envied by other productions. He pointed out that staff members rarely left, and many models returned year after year, enjoying their time on the show. He described the only unhappy people as those who did not receive raises, promotions, or were terminated for poor performance—common issues found in any workplace. He also added that the number of disgruntled employees was “far, far, less than other companies had.”

However, the docuseries also featured longtime “Barker’s Beauties” model Holly Hallstrom, who shared her experience of lodging complaints. She described a workplace where “there was no one monitoring how long the guys were staring at the models. It was a joke. It was an appeasement.” Hallstrom said that management’s actions often seemed designed to stop complaints without resolving underlying issues. She also discussed the conflict and yelling on set, which she believed ultimately contributed to the destruction of The Price Is Right.

Despite the controversy surrounding its past, The Price Is Right continues to air on CBS, now hosted by veteran presenter Drew Carey.
