AceShowbiz - The woman accused of opening fire at Rihanna's Beverly Hills residence has formally pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz faces serious charges after allegedly shooting approximately 20 rounds from an AR-15 assault rifle into the property while the singer was inside.

On March 8, Ortiz, 35, reportedly drove up to the home of the nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist in Beverly Hills, California, and unleashed a barrage of bullets. Prosecutors claim that not only was Rihanna present at the scene, but also her partner, hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky, along with their three young children.

Ortiz appeared in court dressed in yellow jail attire with her hair braided, speaking only to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. Her attorney, Deputy Public Defender Derek Ray Dillman, entered the plea on her behalf. The preliminary hearing will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

Facing 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling, Ortiz could face life imprisonment if convicted on all charges. Despite a request from her defense to reduce bail from $1.9 million to $70,000 due to financial limitations, Judge Theresa McGonigle declined, citing the defendant as a significant risk to public safety and a flight risk.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, "This case involves a dangerous, deliberate shooting into occupied homes. This is the kind of conduct that could easily have resulted in multiple homicides."

Authorities arrested Ortiz hours after the shooting. At the time of her apprehension, she was alone in her vehicle, found with the AR-15 rifle, extra ammunition, and a wig she allegedly planned to use as a disguise.

Public records indicate Ortiz has been a licensed speech pathologist for over ten years. Following the shooting, Judge McGonigle, at the state attorney general’s request, ordered that she be barred from practicing in California.

Neither the defense nor prosecution commented to reporters outside the courthouse. However, District Attorney Nathan Hochman disclosed that during the shooting, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside an Airstream trailer on the property, while Rihanna's mother, their children, and staff members were located in the main house.

Prosecutors detailed that the three counts of firing at an occupied dwelling pertain to Rihanna's main house, the Airstream trailer, and a neighbor’s residence. The 10 counts of assault involve Rihanna, her family, two staffers, and two individuals living nearby.

District Attorney Hochman refrained from disclosing where the bullets struck or discussing possible motives or connections between Ortiz and Rihanna, stating that these aspects remain under active investigation. Additionally, his office is examining Ortiz’s social media posts from the days leading up to the attack.
