AceShowbiz - Tim Daly has joined the NBC comedy pilot Newlyweds, starring alongside his real-life wife, Tea Leoni. The show revolves around a couple who marry later in life, mirroring the actors’ own recent nuptials. Tim Daly and Tea Leoni tied the knot in July 2025 after more than a decade together, having first met on CBS’ drama Madam Secretary, which aired from 2014 to 2019.
The series is created by Gail Lerner, known for her work on Will & Grace and Black-ish, and centers on a free-spirited woman played by Leoni and a reserved professor portrayed by Daly. Their characters marry after a whirlwind romance initiated when Tony (Daly) encounters Jeanie (Leoni) at a valet stand. Despite Tony’s preference for a quiet life post-divorce, he chooses to embrace change rather than live without Jeanie.
Adding to the creative team, Pam Fryman, recognized for directing How I Met Your Mother and Happy’s Place, will direct and executive produce the pilot. The production is handled by Universal Television, with Lerner executive producing alongside co-creator Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, Lionsgate Television, and Fryman. Leoni also serves as a producer.
Tim Daly recently appeared in a recurring role on Netflix’s sitcom Leanne. His extensive career includes starring in NBC’s 1990s comedy Wings and credits such as Private Practice, Superman: The Animated Series, and a guest appearance on The Sopranos that earned him an Emmy nomination. He is represented by IAG, Gateway Management & Production, and Behr Abramson.
The casting of Daly alongside his wife Leoni brings an intriguing authenticity to Newlyweds, as their real-life relationship closely parallels the show's premise of later-in-life romance and marriage. The pilot promises a blend of humor and heartfelt moments as it explores how two very different personalities navigate their new life together.
With a talented cast and experienced creative team, Newlyweds is positioned to offer a fresh take on marriage and relationships, particularly focusing on the dynamics of finding love and commitment beyond youth. Fans of both Daly and Leoni will likely be eager to see how their chemistry translates on screen in this upcoming NBC comedy.
