AceShowbiz - Free Bert has been renewed for a second season by Netflix, much to the delight of fans of stand-up comedian Bert Kreischer. The comedy series, which features Kreischer in the lead role, will continue exploring his unconventional life and antics.

The showrunners and directors, Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel, who co-created the series alongside Kreischer, expressed their gratitude on Monday. They thanked Netflix for trusting the project and allowing them to further develop the story of “freeing Bert.”

The first season centers on Kreischer, known for his shirtless party persona and wild lifestyle, as he navigates new challenges when his daughters get accepted into a prestigious private school in Beverly Hills. The storyline highlights his struggle to fit in, as his usual unruly behavior alienates his family, prompting him to “put on a shirt” and suppress his true nature to blend in better.

In a review for The Hollywood Reporter, TV critic Daniel Fienberg described the series as somewhat successful, noting that the six half-hour episodes present a neatly wrapped story arc with a satisfying conclusion that sets the stage for a second season. However, he also pointed out that the show is “not especially funny” and considered the first season “uneven.” Despite this, Fienberg praised Kreischer as a reasonably good actor, recognizing his natural intensity and screen presence.

Free Bert enjoyed a strong start, debuting in Netflix’s Global Top 10 during the week of its January 2026 premiere. The show is executive produced by Kreischer’s wife, LeeAnn Kreischer, along with Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Elise Henderson, and Judi Marmel.

Filming takes place in Atlanta, a popular location for Netflix productions such as Stranger Things, His & Hers, the upcoming 'Tis So Sweet, All the Sinners Bleed, Sweet Magnolias Season 5, and A Different World.

Netflix’s strong focus on stand-up comedy is partly influenced by co-CEO and former chief content officer Ted Sarandos, who has a passion for the genre. Kreischer himself has five stand-up specials on Netflix and is scheduled to perform at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival 2026.

Aside from his sitcom, Kreischer has participated in various Netflix events, including serving as a tailgate correspondent for the NFL Christmas Gameday and making appearances on WWE Monday Night Raw. He is also set to appear at Netflix’s MLB Opening Night, showcasing a blend of entertainment synergy.

At the upcoming Netflix Is a Joke Festival, Kreischer will headline “Bert and Shaq’s Crowd Work Show” at The Comedy Store on May 8. The following day, he will co-host the “2 Bears 5K” event alongside Tom Segura and Jelly Roll at The Rose Bowl.

With its renewal secured, Free Bert will continue to follow Kreischer’s comedic journey, balancing his wild personality with the demands of family life in a new season anticipated by fans and critics alike.
