AceShowbiz - Beef is set to return for its second season on Netflix, with acclaimed musician and two-time Oscar winner Finneas announced as the composer for the new installment’s score. The streaming giant revealed this exciting update on March 12, just over a month before the season’s April 16 premiere.
The upcoming season will feature a fresh storyline and an entirely new cast, marking a departure from the first season’s characters. Reflecting on his involvement, Finneas shared, "Spent the last 12 months in Beef land ... very grateful to [creator Lee Sung Jin] for involving me, very grateful for the incredible performances from the entire cast."
He added, "I probably watched every scene 100 times while I scored the show, and I felt it every time. True fan of this show, very honored and proud to be a part of it." His enthusiasm underscores the deep connection he developed with the project during the scoring process.
Creator Lee Sung Jin expressed high praise for Finneas, saying, "Finneas is the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my personal life over the last decade, so it's an absolute honor to collaborate with him on the new season. He has an incredible ability to make the darkest emotions sound so achingly beautiful, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what he's cooked up."
The original season of Beef, which debuted in 2023, starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. It explored the intense feud between two individuals after a road-rage incident forces their lives to collide. The show received critical acclaim, earning nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations and winning five, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and top acting awards for both Wong and Yeun.
Season 2 will introduce a new ensemble led by Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Seoyeon Jang. This fresh cast signals a new chapter for the anthology series, promising different characters and narratives while maintaining the original's intense emotional core.
Finneas is widely recognized for his production work with sister Billie Eilish and has previously composed the score for the film The Fallout. He has released two solo albums, most recently For Cryin’ Out Loud! in 2024. His collaborations with Eilish include Oscar-winning songs for the films Barbie and No Time to Die, as well as work on Turning Red.
This new partnership between Finneas and Beef promises to enhance the show’s powerful storytelling with a compelling musical backdrop, continuing the series’ success as it enters its second season.
