Recently, disturbing news has emerged involving one former contestant. Robert Edwards, the creator of the popular Squatty Potty, has been arrested on charges related to child pornography.

Shark Tank first aired on ABC in 2009, inspired by the Japanese show The Tigers of Money. The reality series showcases entrepreneurs presenting their business ideas to wealthy investors who decide whether to fund their ventures. Robert Edwards appeared on the program in 2014, gaining significant attention for his innovative bathroom stool designed to improve bowel movements.

According to authorities, Edwards was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 10. Just days later, he was taken into custody in Washington County, Utah. The United States Attorney’s Office stated that Edwards "knowingly received multiple images of child sexual abuse material" on various occasions between March 2021 and November of an unspecified year.

An undercover FBI agent had infiltrated an online group chat in March 2021, which was reported to be sharing "a collection of child sexual abuse material videos." Edwards was allegedly among the users in that chat. In addition, the UASO claims that FBI agents suspect Edwards purchased additional illegal content via his PayPal account in May 2025.

Following a search warrant executed on Edwards’ person and residence, law enforcement officials reportedly found "multiple videos and images" of child pornography stored on a cell phone. Further searches of several devices in his home allegedly uncovered more illicit material.

Entertainment news outlet Entertainment Weekly has reported that Edwards’ detention hearing is scheduled for March 2, 2026, in St. George, Utah. The businessman has not publicly responded to requests for comment on the charges.

Edwards initially began selling the Squatty Potty alongside his mother in 2010. The product is a specially designed footstool intended to help users achieve a more natural and comfortable posture during bowel movements.

His appearance on Shark Tank in 2014 proved pivotal for the product’s success. Investor Lori Greiner contributed a $350,000 investment that significantly boosted sales. Edwards returned to the show in 2020, revealing that since his first appearance, the company had sold $175 million worth of the Squatty Potty.

This arrest marks a shocking development involving a well-known figure from the reality series. The allegations against Edwards are severe, and legal proceedings are ongoing. Fans of the show and the product alike are left grappling with the news.
