AceShowbiz - As the 2026 Grammy Awards approached, J Balvin shared his thoughts on representing Latin music and the immigrant community. The Colombian artist, nominated for Best Música Urbana Album, emphasized the significance of his role as he prepared for the prestigious event.
“We gotta keep showing up,” Balvin stated, highlighting the collective effort within the genre. “This is not just one artist. This is a movement, you know? We gotta keep supporting our brothers and people that are also nominated that are part of the genre. We gotta make sure that we go there and support.”
He remarked on the undeniable global reach of Latin music, noting how it has evolved over the years. “What’s going on with Latin music on a global scale—you just cannot deny it,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, Balvin admitted that early in his career, he was “super focused” on his own success. “But my mission has always been to put the Latinos on the map,” he continued. “It’s about us.” Events like the Grammys also allow him to connect with artists from various genres. “I’ve always been a big fan of music in general,” he said, expressing a sense of admiration for his peers.
Sharing memories of past performances at the Grammys, Balvin expressed pride in his achievements. “It’s really cool, man, that we’ve been around,” he recalled.
On a more serious note, Balvin addressed the ongoing ICE raids affecting immigrant families. “It’s a hard moment for immigrants and a hard moment for Latinos,” he shared. “Too many families are getting separated. It’s pretty sad. We are really important in this country. Not everyone is willing to do the jobs we do here, and I say we because we are part of the culture.”
