AceShowbiz - Charli XCX experienced a significant shift in her career with the release of her 2024 album, Brat, which opened her up to a broader audience. However, this newfound attention also meant that she found herself under constant scrutiny, a theme she explores in her latest mockumentary, The Moment, which premiered on January 30.
The film, directed by Aidan Zamiri, humorously captures the chaos of the Brat era, showcasing the ups and downs that come with sudden fame. In a recent video interview with Billboard, Charli XCX shared how the transition into a more mainstream spotlight inspired her to create this project. “I’d been this relatively niche artist, and then had suddenly been opened up to this huge new audience,” she explained. “Some of whom really connected with me, and some of whom only connected with aspects of me.”
With the release of Brat in June 2024, the album soared to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, marking Charli’s highest chart position to date. It also earned her three Grammy awards, solidifying her status in the music industry. Following this success, she released a remix album featuring numerous renowned collaborators in October 2024 and embarked on a Brat Tour that continued through August 2025.
Despite the accolades, Charli XCX has made it clear that the Brat era is behind her. “Nothing lasts forever — and no one lasts forever,” she remarked, emphasizing her decision to move on. Her focus is now shifting towards acting and soundtrack projects. In the coming weeks, she will release her companion album for Wuthering Heights, the film adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel, directed by Emerald Fennell.
Reflecting on her journey, Charli noted how important it was for her to take control of her artistic evolution. “It’s cooler to just leave it all behind,” she stated, highlighting her desire to explore new creative avenues. However, she also enjoyed revisiting the vibrant club atmosphere while filming The Moment. “Every single weekend, we would just go out and party,” she said, recalling how they maintained high energy during the 29-day shoot. “Sometimes Aidan would just blast The Prodigy whilst they were setting up a shot.”
