AceShowbiz - Bug Hall, the former child star known for his role as Alfalfa in the 1994 film The Little Rascals, has embarked on a unique journey of living off the grid. Alongside his wife Jill and their five children, Bug has chosen a path of simplicity in Mountain View, Arkansas, after taking a vow of poverty and opting to forgo the riches he earned from his acting career.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Bug expressed his desire to achieve a lifestyle that minimizes dependence on traditional income sources. “My goal is to maintain a life as free of any need for an income as possible,” Bug shared. He added that if financial needs arise, he is willing to undertake odd jobs to meet them.
At 40 years old, Bug and his family are currently residing in a camper van equipped with a water well and generator. He is in the process of constructing a permanent home and a hydro-electrical dam, with aspirations of being completely off-grid within the next six months. Bug, whose real name is Brandon Hall, and Jill tied the knot in 2017 and welcomed their first daughter while still living in Los Angeles before relocating to Arkansas.
Reflecting on his past, Bug admitted that he felt compelled to “self-cancel” after a 2020 incident in Texas where he was arrested for huffing air duster cans. He clarified that he faced no charges following the arrest, which he viewed as a pivotal moment in his life. Bug revealed that he had maintained sobriety for 15 years prior to this event but experienced several relapses, which he felt were overlooked during his time in Hollywood. “I loved making movies. I loved writing, producing, acting,” he remarked, adding that he was ultimately thankful for the wake-up call that the arrest provided.
Bug decided it was necessary to distance himself from Hollywood, which he described as a world filled with “manipulation.” He expressed disinterest in pursuing jobs that he deemed “meaningless” and instead wants to focus on his family and their new way of life.
Currently, Bug and Jill are homeschooling their children and have plans to discourage them from attending conventional college. Bug described formal education as “nonsense,” revealing that his 8-year-old daughter is interested in starting a convent on their Arkansas property, while another daughter has expressed a desire for Bug to build her a house for her future husband.
In an April 2025 YouTube video titled “Into the Unknown,” Bug elaborated on their lifestyle, describing it as a “radical Catholic extremist life.” He believes this approach is essential to address the challenges of modern society. Bug also discussed his vow of poverty, stating that material possessions felt like “just a big pile of nothing,” indicating that the sacrifices he made paled in comparison to the greater purpose he seeks to fulfill.
