AceShowbiz - "Toy Story 5" is having a new addition to its cast member. The character Combat Carl, initially voiced by the late Carl Weathers, is set to return in the upcoming fifth installment.
Stepping into the role is none other than Ernie Hudson, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore. The film is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026.
Combat Carl, a G.I. Joe-inspired action figure who first appeared in the "Toy Story Halloween" special "Toy Story of Terror!" in 2013, is a loving homage to Weathers' numerous action roles.
Ernie Hudson, no stranger to voice acting, has also lent his voice to characters in "Transformers: Prime," "Infinity Train," and "Star Wars: The Bad Batch."
Fans will also see the return of series stalwarts Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. After their parting at the end of "Toy Story 4", Woody and Buzz are set to reunite.
The new sequel, directed by Andrew Stanton - who helmed "Finding Nemo" and "WALL-E" - will be his first time directing a "Toy Story" film, though he has written all four previous installments.
The plot details for "Toy Story 5" are sparse, but what has been teased is anything but mundane. The toys are expected to face off against an army of Buzz Lightyear figures and delve into themes of technology replacing the traditional function of toys in kids' lives.
It's also rumored to put spotlight on cowgirl Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, in a significant way, and further explore Buzz and Woody's renewed alliance following Woody's departure with Bo Peep.
The new additions to the cast roster also include Anna Faris in an as-yet-undisclosed role. The combination of returning favorites and new voices promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the beloved franchise.
