AceShowbiz - While a litany of people took issues with nepo babies, Amanda Seyfried has a quite different take on the matter. The "Mamma Mia!" actress herself is not a nepo baby, but she isn't opposed to helping her kids if they pursue entertainment.
"I would totally do that for her [daughter Nina], but then I'm like [sneering], 'No, I can't. She got to earn it...No, I'm kidding. But, listen, nepo babies aren't the worst. We've got to stop giving them a bad name. It's not their f**king fault! It all comes out in the wash."
Seyfried's thoughts are echoed by Josh Brolin, who argued that being a nepo baby didn't guarantee an easy ride to stardom. He often had to work twice as hard because his famous surname brought him disadvantage during auditions.
Recalling his experience auditioning for "The Goonies," he said, "They pulled the Brolin thing, 'Are you [James] Brolin's kid? You want to be an actor, huh?' So instead of that nepotistic thing, they looked at me and were like, 'Oh yeah? So act. I'm not gonna help you, because I know that you think you're gonna make it…' "
Brolin found the remarks were "just ridiculous," as he explained, "I studied, and I got Stanislavski books, Grotowski, the Poor Theatre, and Antonin Artaud and the Theatre of Cruelty. I stayed in a bookstore 90% of the time. Just reading, reading, reading."
As Amanda Seyfriend puts it, the ultimate test remains one's ability to deliver, "If you're not good, you're not good."
