AceShowbiz - It's been three years since Michael B. Jordan was confirmed as a new cast in the long-awaited follow-up to Will Smith's 2007 post-apocalyptic thriller "I AM Legend". Speculations about Jordan's role ran wild: Would he be a younger image of Smith's character Dr. Robert Neville, or perhaps a Hemocyte leader?
Smith has finally lifted the lid on what to expect from the upcoming movie and what role is going to be played by the "Creed" actor. Instead of portraying a younger Neville, Jordan will take on a pioneering role as the head of a new settlement.
The original "I Am Legend", set in a desolate New York City devastated by the Krippin Virus, depicted Dr. Neville as the last human survivor in a city teeming with infected beings. In contrast, Jordan's character will navigate a different kind of survival in an apocalyptic world.
In a revealing conversation on Revolt TV, Smith dished on, "What we were gonna do was the prequel, so we were gonna do the prequel. … And [Akiva Goldsman] was like, 'But wait, what if we make a new version from the alternate ending, where your character is still alive and you know, Michael B. Jordan's character currently is the head of a new settlement.' … He's not my son."
While "I Am Legend 2" is still in its developmental phase and generates palpable excitement among its audience, it's not the only project keeping Will Smith busy. He's also gearing up for a follow-up to his superhero comedy "Hancock", eyeing the ever-talented Zendaya Coleman to join the cast.
