AceShowbiz - David Schwimmer, popularly known for his role as Ross Geller on the beloved sitcom "Friends," shed light on his complicated relationship with the show's famous theme song.
Speaking on Matt Lucas and David Walliams' "Making a Scene" podcast, Schwimmer candidly revealed that there was a time when he couldn't bear to hear the cheerful sound of "So no one told you life was gonna be this way..."
Reflecting on the years following the iconic show's conclusion, Schwimmer admitted, "I never watched the show after we finished it. For me, it's like, I did it, I'm moving on. I don't really go back and revisit."
His distance from the show extended even to its memorable theme song, to which he developed an adverse reaction. "I'll be really honest, there was a time for quite a while that just hearing the theme song would really…" he shared before letting out a sigh. "You know what I mean? I just had that reaction. I mean, I just had heard it so many times."
The situation wasn't helped by the fact that every public appearance or interview featuring Schwimmer would be paired with the same theme song.
"Any time you'd go on a show or a talk show or an interview, that would be your intro song. So I just didn't have the greatest response to it for a period of time," he noted, highlighting the inescapable nature of the tune.
However, Schwimmer's perspective began to shift in a surprising and heartwarming way. His daughter, whom he shares with ex-wife Zoe Buckman, "discovered it around age nine" and started watching the show.
,p> "I'd be making breakfast or whatever and I'd hear my kid's laughter," the "Goosebumps" actor recalled. "My whole relationship to that song and to the show changed again."
"Friends," which ran for a successful 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, followed the lives of six young adults living in New York City. Alongside Schwimmer, the show starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry. The sitcom continues to be a cultural force, endearing itself to both old fans and new generations alike.
