AceShowbiz - Olivia Munn is discovering the multifaceted experience of being a mother of two. Recently joining Jenna Bush-Hager as a guest host on "Today with Jenna and Friends", the actress shared candid insights into her evolving journey as a parent.
In September, Olivia and her comedian husband John Mulaney welcomed their second child, Mei June, adding a new dynamic to their lives. Reflecting on the past six months with their "family of four," she described the whirlwind experience as akin to "landing on Mars."
She said, “It is so much fun every single day. (But) it's like I just landed on Mars. This is insane. How does anyone do this?"
Balancing the joys and trials of parenting, Munn opened up about a particularly challenging period in December when she found herself managing both her three-year-old son Malcolm Hiep's struggles with jealousy and the pressures of her husband's Broadway rehearsals.
"I did have a moment of a real breakdown, a real big breakdown," she recounted. "My 3-year-old hit his limit. It was like screaming and crying and saying things to where my feelings were getting hurt. I broke down crying - a cry I have never cried."
Despite these tough moments, Munn discovered a silver lining. She revealed a newfound perspective, "I was so distraught, but then I had this realization. I said, 'God willing, we get to work as much as we are working now forever, and God willing we're shifting and jumping around and moving everywhere, and we're so lucky.' "
Her focus on finding humor in tumultuous moments has helped her cope, making her children's fits and breakdowns somewhat easier to handle.
Bush-Hager, a mother of three, offered her own wisdom about parenting older children. "I'm not going to be in all of my kids' memories, (and) I shouldn't be. We should make our kids feel confident so they can go and be their own people," she said, highlighting an important goal for many parents.
Outside of her parental roles, Olivia Munn has faced another significant challenge. Diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in April 2023, she underwent a double mastectomy and multiple surgeries.
Through it all, Munn's resilience shines. Her journey through motherhood, marital dynamics, and health battles illustrates a powerful narrative of vulnerability, strength, and unyielding optimism.
