AceShowbiz - Mama Mary Schmucker, one of the stars of TLC's "Breaking Amish," passed away at the age of 65 on Friday, March 28 following a prolonged and brave battle with colon cancer.

She died at her home in Pennsylvania, surrounded by her family after being briefly hospitalized earlier in the week, according to her son Andrew Schmucker.

Mary first captured the hearts of viewers in 2012 with her appearance on "Breaking Amish," a reality show that chronicled the lives of young individuals from Amish and Mennonite communities as they experienced modern life.

She continued to charm audiences in the show's spin-off, "Return to Amish," where she featured prominently along with her son Abe Schmucker and daughter-in-law Rebecca.

Mary's journey with cancer began in early 2022 when she announced her diagnosis via a Facebook group dedicated to Tupperware sales. She wrote, "As you know I have colon cancer, and I am scheduled for surgery this month."

Following the procedure, initial reports from her doctors were optimistic, with one friend updating fans, "She says the doctor feels he was able to get all the cancer!! And she's coming home today!!"

However, by June 2022, Mary revealed that the cancer had progressed to stage three. In a heartbreaking update, she shared, "When I did my surgery, they said they got all of the cancer. Two weeks later they called me and said: 'You have to come in right away.' "

Despite these setbacks, Mary remained resilient, often seeking second opinions and keeping her spirits high.

In November of 2024, her condition had worsened, and she entered hospice care. Rebecca, her daughter-in-law, shared an emotional appeal on Instagram, "I'm making a prayer request for mom."

"She's not feeling good the last few weeks and can't keep anything down and she's having trouble eating. She is on hospice now. Her pain has been so bad and they are helping with that. If you could, flood her with positive messages and pray for her to be comfortable and pain free."

Mama Mary was a beloved figure, not only for her family but also for her multitude of fans. Her last social media post in September 2023 was flooded with an outpouring of condolences soon after her death was announced, with one fan writing, "RIP Queen. We will miss you so damn much!! The world is definitely a darker place without you."

Mary is survived by her husband Chester and five children, including Abe, Katie Ann, and Andy, who also appeared on the show. Her legacy of courage and love continues to inspire many, reminding us of the importance of family and the strength of the human spirit.
