AceShowbiz - Zayn Malik was set to conclude his Stairway to the Sky Tour with a third night at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City on Friday, March 28. However, just hours before the concert commenced, the 32-year-old singer took to Instagram to share the disappointing news with his fans.
"I'm heartbroken to say that I won't be able to perform tonight in Mexico City," Malik wrote via his Instagram Stories. "I've been really sick since this morning and, despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn't allowing it. I'm so sorry to let you down."
He expressed his gratitude towards his fans, acknowledging the love and energy he always receives from them, "The love and energy I always feel from my fans means the world to me, and it hurts deeply to miss this moment with you. Thank you for your understanding, and please know I'm sending all my love to each of you."
Malik provided an update on his condition several hours later, revealing his food poisoning. "Mexico, I love you even though myself and many of my crew got severe food poisoning… it's no joke - still struggling," he revealed in a follow-up Instagram Story.
His fans, who had been eagerly anticipating the final show of his tour, responded with an outpouring of support. Many flooded his previous Instagram posts with messages of concern and well-wishes, while others requested the rescheduling of the missed performance.
The Stairway to the Sky Tour, which kicked off in Leeds, England, on November 23, marks Malik's first solo trek across the U.K. and North America, supporting his fourth studio album, "Room Under the Stairs". Throughout the tour, Malik has faced several challenges, including a previously canceled show in Newcastle, England, due to vocal issues.
"I'm so sorry to do this, but my voice just isn't there at all tonight and without it there's no show. I'm truly sorry to let you down, especially at short notice," he wrote at the time. "I held onto hope until the very last moment. I'm hopeful with some rest tonight I'll be back on stage tomorrow. My deepest apologies Newcastle love you all xx."
Malik also admitted that despite his initial struggles with anxiety about performing live, he thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the positive energy from the crowd.
"These shows have made me feel alive, happy, grateful, & at home, and that's all because of you," Malik concluded. "These shows, your energy, your fan projects filled me with so much love and a feeling I can't even describe. Big love."
