AceShowbiz - "The Bachelorette" star Katie Thurston, 34, has shared an emotional and daunting update in her cancer journey. In a series of poignant social media posts, she disclosed that spots were found on her liver.
According to Thurston, this might indicate that her cancer has advanced to stage 4. "My biopsy is scheduled Friday which would have been my treatment day," she wrote. "We now wait."
The newly-wed star initially announced her stage-3 invasive ductal carcinoma diagnosis on February 15, flooding her feed with an outpouring of raw emotions. "This is day one of sharing and is going to be a long one," she began. "The first step of acceptance of my reality was the hardest. But I am ready to fight this."
Her steadfast resolve was tested with the recent discovery of "two liver lesions" measuring up to 1.4 cm.
Despite this challenge, she remains optimistic about the biopsy results although she admits to feeling exhausted and in pain. "I'd love to hear from my sisters who are stage 4 in terms of quality of life, motherhood, etc," Katie candidly shared.
Katie's journey into treatment has been grueling, describing herself as feeling like a "voodoo doll with all the pokes."
She's been undergoing Zoladex injections as part of her treatment, sharing that these can help by reducing estrogen production in the body. "Asked for ice ahead of time and that helped," she remarked about managing the procedure's discomfort.
"As a 34-year-old woman it's just - you're not prepared," Katie explained during an appearance on "Good Morning America". "You're on, like, survival mode. Like you don't have a choice. You show up or you die."
Katie's battle has significantly impacted her personal life, leading her and fiance Jeff Arcuri, 36, to expedite their wedding plans. They wed in a heartfelt backyard ceremony surrounded by close family members.
"We got our marriage license and a friend is just gonna marry us," Katie shared, expressing how the ordeal has strengthened their bond.
