AceShowbiz - Kim Kardashian's effort to acquire a Bible inscribed by her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., was turned down by O.J. Simpson's estate. Kardashian, the SKIMS founder, reached out to Malcolm LaVergne, the executor of Simpson's estate, offering $15,000 for the personal item before it was scheduled to be auctioned off to cover Simpson's debts.
LaVergne, responsible for managing the sale of Simpson's assets, explained his decision to reject Kardashian's offer. "The amount is why I had no choice, because why would I spend $15,000 of estate money - why would I spend $15,000 in attorney's fees - to sell it to Kim for $15,000?"
LaVergne told People. Instead, he suggested Kardashian could bid online, where the Bible currently has a leading bid of $9,800. "She may even get it cheaper than the 15 grand, so who knows," he added.
The Bible is significant, containing a handwritten message from Robert Sr. dated June 18, 1994, just a day after Simpson was arrested for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
The note reads, "O.J., this book will help. God loves and he will speak to you with his words. Read this book every day. God has a definite plan for your life. You are his child and he will use you again. I love you and God loves you."
Robert Kardashian Sr. stood by Simpson during his infamous murder trial in 1995, despite it causing divisions within his own family. His ex-wife, Kris Jenner, and their children Kim, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Rob Kardashian were close to Nicole Brown Simpson. This loyalty to Simpson was tough for his family, as noted by Jenner during a 2009 interview.
The trial ended with Simpson being acquitted of the criminal charges but later found liable in a 1997 civil trial. Simpson encountered further legal issues in 2008 and served nine years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping. He passed away in April 2024 from prostate cancer at the age of 76.
Robert Kardashian Sr., meanwhile, passed away in 2003 after a battle with esophageal cancer. His work in the legal field left a lasting impression on his family, especially Kim, who has followed in his footsteps by pursuing her legal ambitions and criminal justice reforms.
