AceShowbiz - Jessica Simpson, 44, has made a poignant new single "Leave," dropping it as part of her EP "Nashville Canyon: Part 1". The song hints at the turmoil in her relationship with estranged husband Eric Johnson, 45, whom she separated from after ten years of marriage.
Simpson emphasizes her sense of betrayal as she sings, "What we had was magic / Now you made it tragic / Giving her what you gave to me / Now the well that you drank from's empty."
The emotional track continues with intense lines such as, "Did you do to her what you did to me? / Was she on her knees? / Oh, she's everything but me." She further states, "I'd rather die / Than let you be inside me with her on your mind."
Simpson's separation from Johnson didn't come as a shock to some fans, as speculation had grown when she stopped posting photos with him and was seen without her wedding ring in late 2023.
Addressing the split, Simpson said in January, "Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them."
The couple share three children: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.
The "Irresistible" singer has been candid about the difficulties she's faced, describing the process of writing "Leave" as challenging yet necessary. "Leave is a hard lyric for me to write," she mentioned in a behind-the-scenes video. "It was tapping into some stuff that was scary to tap into. But I needed to get it out."
However, there is a silver lining to her heartbreak as she's healing while working on her new music, calling it "the most intense yet enlightening therapy I've ever been through." She began working on her new EP last fall, reflecting on her time spent in Nashville, "Thank God, I had Nashville."
Simpson remains positive about the future. Despite the separation, she continues to co-parent with Johnson and looks forward to what lies ahead. "It wasn't easy. I am strong - maybe I'm just meant to love a lot of people in my life."
"Nashville Canyon: Part 1" is set for a full release on March 21, marking a significant moment in her career and personal growth.
