AceShowbiz - Meghan Markle is officially called Meghan Sussex on "The Drew Barrymore Show". The Duchess of Sussex, 43, stopped by the show to promote her new Netflix series "With Love, Meghan".
Host Drew Barrymore, 50, introduced the former "Suits" actress by her royal surname. "This is the Fast Five with Meghan Sussex," Barrymore proclaimed, setting the tone for the interview.
This marked Meghan's first daytime TV appearance in over three years. The audience applauded as Meghan answered rapid-fire questions, revealing tidbits about her family life and her past career on legal drama series "Suits".
Her official introduction as Meghan Sussex came after she corrected Mindy Kaling on her Netflix show when the "Running Point" co-creator repeatedly referred to her as Meghan Markle. "It's so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I'm Sussex now," Meghan said.
"You have kids and you go, 'No, I share my name with my children.' I didn't know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name, our little family name."
In a recent interview with People magazine, Meghan elaborated the profound significance of the Sussex name. "It's our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn't recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children," she said.
Meghan's connection to her new surname deepened upon having children. She spoke about how sharing a last name with her kids, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, solidifies their familial bond. "I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me," she said.
The title "Sussex" was originally bestowed upon them by the late Queen Elizabeth II when they married in May 2018. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, initially bore the last name Mountbatten-Windsor, but the couple has since chosen to adopt "Sussex" as their family surname following their departure from senior royal duties and relocation to California.
