Kourtney Kardashian and Kendra Wilkinson are facing criticism for their stance on relocating toxic fire debris from affluent Calabasas to the areas like Kettleman Hills and Buttonwillow where the less privileged communities live.

AceShowbiz - Kourtney Kardashian, 45, and Kendra Wilkinson, 39, became the center of a heated controversy following their participation in a protest against the dumping of hazardous waste from January's Palisades fires at the Calabasas Landfill.

The demonstration, which took place just 4.8 miles from the affluent city and near an elementary school, aimed to prevent potentially harmful debris from being stored in close proximity to the residential areas where the rich and wealthy live.

Kourtney stated in an interview, "We just want to make sure that it's not coming here, and that it goes to a place where there's no people around."

During the protest, placards reading "Protect Calabasas No Toxic Fire Waste!" and "Fill our hydrants, not our dumps!!!" filled the crowd. However, one sign stood out for telling people to dumb the garbage in Kettleman Hills and Buttonwillow, where the less privileged community live.

This quickly ignited a backlash on social media. One Twitter user remarked, " 'Toxic waste is for the poor' is what she means by dump it in Kettleman Hills." Another critic highlighted the environmental issues already plaguing these areas, calling the stance "astonishingly disrespectful and ignorant."

These comments underline the broader concerns of environmental justice, which argues against placing disproportionate environmental hazards on marginalized communities.

Kourtney defended the protest by emphasizing that Calabasas is a community that strives for sustainability. "It is illegal to throw away batteries, for construction sites to dump any harmful asbestos or anything in our Calabasas landfill," she noted.

Kendra posted pictures from the protest although she cropped the sign that mentioned Kettleman Hills and Buttonwillow while also taking photos with Kourtney and the woman who held the controversial placard. "Protect Calabasas protest!!! Stop the toxic waste dumping around our schools and residential areas!!!" she wrote in the caption.

The Calabasas protest followed a legal setback as L.A. County Superior Court Judge Stephen Goorvitch rejected a temporary restraining order to halt the ash disposal.

As the debate rages on, the broader impact of the Los Angeles fires, which caused an estimated $250 billion in economic losses and significant real estate damage, remains a pressing concern.

Celebrities, including the Kardashians, were among those who experienced the immediate threat of the fires although their properties were spared.
