AceShowbiz - HBO's new DC series, "Lanterns," has officially kicked off its production to bring the iconic Green Lantern characters back to the screen in a fresh and riveting storyline.
The first image released from the set sees Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, walking down a deserted road dressed in everyday attire. A keen eye might notice a Green Lantern Corps ring on Hal Jordan's finger.
This glimpse aligns well with the series' premise, which revolves around "new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland."
The creative minds behind "Lanterns" include Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof, known for their work on critically acclaimed projects like "Ozark" and "Watchmen." Mundy emphasizes their intention "to deliver a layered drama - rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building - that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion."
The ensemble cast is set to bring depth to the storyline, with Kelly Macdonald as Hal's love interest Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as modern cowboy William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, and Ulrich Thomsen portraying the supervillain Sinestro.
James Gunn, one of the executive producers, expressed his excitement over the project, describing "Lanterns" as "something really special." Fans can expect the premiere sometime in 2026 on HBO and Max.
With its rich storytelling, multifaceted characters, and a touch of the supernatural, HBO's "Lanterns" is poised to be a standout addition to the DC television universe.
