AceShowbiz - Amy Schumer's latest Netflix comedy, "Kinda Pregnant", debuted to mixed critical reception, earning a mere 19 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the less-than-stellar reviews, Schumer has chosen to highlight the positive feedback, thanking critics for their "bravery" in being favorable.
In an Instagram post dated February 6, she expressed her gratitude to Variety's critic Owen Gleiberman, stating, "This means a lot to me. It gets more clicks to trash someone especially me. If you don't like physical comedy or you are a single guy who prefers sci-fi or sometimes the assignment is to trash something so I appreciate the bravery to say you like something."
With Jillian Bell and Will Forte on supporting roles, Schumer as a co-writer, and Adam Sandler as a producer, the film, which follows an English teacher who fabricates a pregnancy out of jealousy, quickly climbed to No. 1 on Netflix's "Top 10 Movies in the U.S. Today" list despite lukewarm reviews.
Producer Molly Sims explained how she could easily relate to the story, "Something just immediately connected with me when I read the script. I also knew it would resonate with so many women. What I'm most excited about is how real this film feels."
"Yes, it's really freaking funny, but it's also totally unfiltered. A story about women that I don't think is often shared. The great parts, the scary parts and all of the in-between. It doesn't sugarcoat the wild, emotional ride that is pregnancy and motherhood."
Whether you're a fan of Amy Schumer's distinctive comedic style or simply on the lookout for a story that speaks genuinely about the highs and lows of womanhood, this film offers both humor and heart. As Schumer said, it is a "laugh-out-loud funny and relatable" movie that will make you "cry-laugh."
