AceShowbiz - Kacey Musgraves has responded to backlash following her viral reaction at the 2025 Grammy Awards when Beyonce Knowles won Best Country Album for "Cowboy Carter". She was captured on camera clapping with a serious expression, leading to rumors that she's upset.
Musgraves, however, dismissed this speculation as a "sensationalistic false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other." She emphasized that there was "simply no scowl or expression made" as her standing ovation was misconstrued.
At the end of the evening, Musgraves had her own triumph, winning the Grammy for Best Country Song for "The Architect." During her acceptance speech, she shared her gratitude and positive outlook, "There's so much darkness in this world right now, and it just feels so good to be able to fight some of that darkness through song. It's such an honor."
Back in March 2024 in an interview with The Cut, Kasey Musgraves made it clear that she welcomed Beyonce or any other artist from different genres to country music scene, "The more the f***ing merrier. I don't really care. It doesn't affect what I'm doing. It doesn't affect me. I've always been just doing my own thing. It's just fun to watch."
This sentiment was echoed by fellow nominee Lainey Wilson, who told NME, "Artists like Post [Malone] and Beyoncé are introducing their audiences to this kind of music, and it's only done good things for the genre. It's cool to see."
Another country star Kelsea Balleini shared the same opinion, "To me, you don't have to be a country artist to make a country record. Those don't have to exist in the same plane. I'm a country artist, but I've done pop songs. That's okay. So why isn't it okay the other way around? That doesn't make sense."
Despite these supports, Beyonce was snubbed by voters at the Country Music Association as she got zero nomination at the CMA awards.
In stark contrast, this year's Grammy Awards spotlighted the evolving landscape of country music, with crossover artists reaching new milestones. The statement is clear: there's room for everyone in country music, and it's an opportunity for growth and celebration.
