AceShowbiz - Rihanna has always been unapologetic about her look, life, and career. The global superstar, now 36, hit back at an online troll who demanded the release of a new album and rudely mocked her on Instagram.
The insult came under a video Rihanna posted to celebrate her sobriety while ringing in New Year with friends, where she proudly declared, "Y'all, I didn't drink all year! I didn't drink all year," and captioned it as "New Year, New Me."
The troll, going by the name Lorenzo, wrote, "We want an album forehead," intending to provoke Rihanna. But the "Work" singer was quick to deliver an epic clap-back, responding, "Listen Lorenzo! You ain't cute enough to be calling me by my black name you dizzy f***!" This quick-witted comeback has once again highlighted Rihanna's unflinching attitude towards online negativity.
Since her last album, "Anti", released in 2016, fans have been eagerly waiting for new material. Although Rihanna hasn't released a full album in almost nine years, she did contribute two tracks - "Lift Me Up" and "Born Again" - for the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" soundtrack in 2022. "Lift Me Up" notably earned her Grammy and Oscar nominations.
Rihanna's focus in recent years has significantly shifted towards her successful fashion and beauty brands, such as Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty. She told TIME magazine about her 100 percent involvement in her beauty brand, emphasizing her creative freedom in all its processes.
Despite this, the Barbadian star hasn't entirely sidelined her music career. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in April, Rihanna conveyed excitement about her new music, describing her forthcoming songs as "so good."
However, in an earlier British Vogue interview, she admitted to feeling "toxic pressure" to surpass the quality of "Anti". "It's not the right way to look at music because music is an outlet and a space to create, and you can create whatever. It doesn't have to even be on any scale," she explained.
In addition to her New Year's Instagram post, fans were treated to an unexpected performance by Rihanna at a Girls Love Karaoke event in New York City, where she sang her own songs such as "Needed Me".
As the anticipation for Rihanna's new album continues, her recent interviews suggest she's re-examining her earlier work with a fresh perspective, indicating that quality, more than speed, drives her creative process. In her own words, "I'm gonna start - give me a second!"
With her unwavering commitment to authenticity, both in her music and business endeavors, Rihanna continues to inspire and resonate with her fans worldwide.
