After the tragic deaths of her siblings, Aaron Carter, Bobbie Jean and Leslie, Angel is determined to end the cycle of substance abuse and mental health struggles within her family.

AceShowbiz - Angel Carter Conrad, 37, has faced immense loss with the deaths of her siblings Leslie Carter in 2012, twin brother Aaron Carter in 2022, and Bobbie Jean Carter in 2023. Despite these tragedies, Conrad has found a way to convert her grief into action by supporting the Kids Mental Health Foundation. Through volunteering, raising awareness and fundraising, she hopes to equip children with the skills needed to nurture their minds and protect themselves.

"Within my grief, I have found a lot of peace and a lot of hope with working with the Kids Mental Health Foundation," Conrad tells PEOPLE. Her mission is also personal, as it includes educating herself about addiction, a disease that afflicted each of her late siblings.

"A few years before Aaron passed away, he said to me something that really stuck with me, and he said, 'Angel, you just don't know enough about addiction.' And it hit my heart, especially after he passed away because I don't [know enough]," Conrad admits.

As part of this education, she finds age-appropriate ways to discuss substance abuse and boundaries with her own 5-year-old daughter Harper. "Providing boundaries" and maintaining Harper's innocence are paramount for Conrad, who recalls the lack of a safe, disciplined environment in her own upbringing.

Reflecting on Aaron's life as a child star, she emphasizes, "The most important thing is that my child is protected with her innocence, and she's able to grow and learn and try new things and become the person that she wants to be one day."

Conrad's approach to grief is far from linear. "Having so much loss in my life, I do know what to expect to a certain extent now, and I want to continue to honor my family," she says. This involves keeping the memories of her siblings alive within the family, from her daughter Harper to her siblings' children, including Aaron's son Prince and Leslie's teenage daughter Alyssa.

Remembering her sister Bobbie Jean, Conrad describes her as a "loving, funny" person who didn't deserve her tragic fate. "BJ didn't ask for what happened to her and it wasn't her fault and she didn't deserve that," she says, emphasizing how important it is for people to remember her sister as someone who deserved love.

Through her efforts, Conrad hopes to teach the next generation that while bad things can happen, it's how you handle them that truly matters. Her commitment to breaking the cycle of addiction and dysfunction in her family is a testament to her strength and resilience.
