AceShowbiz - It's the end of a decade-long journey together for Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley Bennett as she filed for divorce. The filing took place in Cook County, Illinois on Friday, December 13, eight months after they split.
In a joint statement shared on Instagram Stories, the couple announced in April that after a period of separation, they had decided to part ways. "We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together," the statement read. "God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition."
Chance and Corley's relationship dates back to 2003 when they first met at Chance's mother's office party. At just nine years old, Chance was smitten when Kirsten and her friends performed a Destiny's Child song.
"Now I'm locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth," he once tweeted. They began dating in 2013 and, amidst their ups and downs, eventually welcomed their first daughter Kensli in 2015. Chance proposed three years later, and the couple married in a civil ceremony in December 2018 before hosting a larger wedding celebration in Newport Beach, California, in March 2019.
Despite their decision to divorce, the couple aims to keep their children's welfare a top priority. Their Instagram posts reflect how they continue to co-parent Kensli (9) and Marli (5) by participating in shared activities, including taking them to meet Olympic champion Simone Biles in October. "Took the girls to see @goldoveramericatour and meet some of the greatest athletes to grace the earth!" Chance wrote.
Reports suggest the couple's split may have been influenced by an incident in Jamaica where Chance was observed dancing provocatively with another woman during Carnival. While a rep downplayed the incident, Kirsten's subsequent Instagram post hinted at underlying issues.
Though the divorce marks the end of their marriage, the love story of Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley Bennett highlights a journey filled with shared memories and a continued commitment to raising their daughters together. As they transition out of their marital relationship, their dedication to family remains unwavering.
