AceShowbiz - Donald Trump is yet to officially return to the White House, but he has ruffled feathers with a neighboring country. The former U.S. president has been chastised online after he mocked Justin Trudeau and Canada.
The president-elect insulted the Canadian Prime Minister by calling him a "governor" and referred to the country as a "state" instead. "It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account at just after midnight Tuesday, December 10.
Trump added, "I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!" He posted the scathing message after Trudeau warned of tariffs on the country.
Following his post, Trump was trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, as of Tuesday, with most comments calling out his "ignorant" remarks about Canada, which is supposed to be America's ally. "That pig Americans elected thinks this is funny. F**k him. He is out to destroy the world. Trudeau is more of a leader than Trump could ever be. Canada is stronger than he thinks," one person reacted to Trump's jab.
Another angry user wrote, "For the ignorant: Canada isn't a state, nor will it be. Trudeau isn't the governor of Canada, he's the Prime Minister. Canada is our ally & these comments & posts by trump are completely disgusting & inappropriate."
A third protested, "I'm sorry but if Joe Biden referred to Justin Trudeau as Governor and Canada as a state we would be getting dozens of articles about how he's senile and needs to resign." Someone called the 45th POTUS "Total a**hole."
Another person pointed out, "Diplomacy by insult. The next President of the United States mocks world leader and entire country. President-elect Donald Trump calls Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau 'Governor of the great state of Canada'. Trump is always such an embarrassment."
Trump has not addressed the backlash over his insult, while Trudeau has not responded to Trump's jab.
