AceShowbiz - The Max Original series "The Eastern Gate". led by Lena Gora, will debut globally on Friday, January 31. Directed by Oscar nominee Jan P. Matuszynski, the series follows Ewa Oginiec (Gora), a Secret Service agent who plans to retire after a personal trauma. However, her plans are thwarted when her partner, also an agent, is exposed by Russian intelligence and mysteriously vanishes.
"The Eastern Gate" delves into the mechanisms of provocation on the global stage and the intense battles between intelligence agencies in a world facing the complexities of hybrid warfare. The title refers to the Suwałki Gap, a critical area along the border between Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast, which is considered one of Europe's top three hotspots and is crucial for safeguarding NATO's eastern flank.
One of the first-look photos sees Gora's character being covered with blood. Another features her looking concerned while on the phone. She is also seen in various scenes, one of which sees her rocking a sparking red dress.
"The world feels more divided than ever, yet in some ways, united by a shared sense of confusion. As a Polish-American artist, I feel a deep responsibility to bridge these perspectives, connecting the history and realities of Eastern Europe with a global audience,” shared Gora in a statement to Deadline.
She went on saying, “Returning to Poland for 'The Eastern Gate' allowed me to delve into the complexities of our time, portraying a female secret agent navigating the precarious moments leading up to the Ukraine war. This project is meaningful to me, much like my last film, Erupcja, as it seeks to shed light on universal confusions through the lens of our shared human experience.”
