Fans of Sum 41 are heartbroken as the band's scheduled Australian tour dates have been abruptly canceled due to lead vocalist Deryck Whibley's ongoing battle with pneumonia.

AceShowbiz - Sum 41 announced the cancellation of their 2024 Australian tour via a statement posted on Good Things Festival's Instagram after their frontman was diagnosed with pneumonia. This decision follows a prior cancellation of their performance at Brisbane's Fortitude Valley Music Hall on December 4.

The "Fat Lip" band was initially excited to engage with their Aussie fans again from December 4 through December 12 but was forced to rethink their plans due to vocalist Deryck Whibley's severe pneumonia.

"It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed," the band expressed. "We were beyond excited to deliver this tour and connect with our Aussie fans once more. Now that we're here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it's clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform. We understand and appreciate your disappointment - we're gutted too."

This health scare isn't Whibley's first encounter with pneumonia. Last September, he was hospitalized with the illness, coupled with the threat of heart failure. His wife, Ariana Cooper Whibley, detailed the alarming experience on Instagram.

"The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure," she said. Whibley expressed his gratitude to fans for their support and admitted, "I'm not out of the woods of this pneumonia yet and have been told to be prepared for a bit of roller coaster sickness."

The disappointing news comes as the band plans its farewell tour, which will culminate in their final performance in Toronto on January 30, 2025. Despite the cancellations and the change in plans, the Good Things Festival will go on as planned in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, featuring an incredible lineup of local and international acts.

Sum 41's long career, filled with hits and dedicated fans, is approaching its end. The band's eighth and final album, "Heaven :x: Hell," was released in March 2023, shortly before the announcement of their breakup after 27 years. Fans can only hope for Whibley's speedy recovery as they look forward to the remaining farewell shows.

While this certainly marks a bittersweet turn for Sum 41, the band's legacy remains strong as they prepare to say goodbye to the stage in their native Canada.
