AceShowbiz - Charli XCX has found herself in hot water following her recent performance. The "Boom Clap" songstress was highly criticized by social media users for allegedly promoting smoking to young concertgoers.

On Wednesday, November 27, the 32-year-old singer and songwriter became a hot topic on X, formerly known as Twitter. Social media users called out the songstress for smoking onstage during her performance.

One X user blasted Charli, "promoting smoking to audience full of minors..i stan her but this is not okay." Similarly, another chimed in, "promoting smoking cigs to her young audience? as a xcxanator im livid," adding a GIF featuring Tokyo Toni rolling her eyes.

Also slamming the "Brat" artist over her performance, a third protested, "not her promoting unhealthy habits and delivering a lackluster performance while doing so…" A fourth asked, "Are celebs such as Charli XCX and Addison Rae making smoking 'cool' again?" A fifth added, "This is sort of sad why is she advertising cigarettes to her fans."

Upon learning that Charli was bombarded with criticisms, her fans quickly came to her defense. One of them sarcastically wrote, "Yeah an album about doing blow is definitely for minors!!!" Another penned, "I'm also a minor (43) and I'm so horrified." A third stated, "not that deep it's just a cigarette + everyone in europe smokes + why would a minor listen to someone who sings about [a snow emoji]."

The mixed comments came after Charli took the stage in Manchester. During the show, she treated concertgoers to a performance of "Apple". As she delivered the song on the stage, she held a lit-up cigarette in between her fingers. In a video from the gig, it could be seen that there was white smoke coming out of the cigarette.

At one point, Charli told the packed audience to "sing" the song. While aiming her microphone at the crowd, she put the cigarette in between her lips and started smoking for a few seconds.
