AceShowbiz - Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have left the United States for rural England, according to The Wrap. The couple has reportedly purchased a home in the Cotswolds, a popular celebrity destination about 100 miles from London.
The move comes after the 2024 presidential election, in which Donald Trump won a second term. Sources told TMZ that DeGeneres and de Rossi were already in the process of purchasing their Cotswolds home before the election but decided to flee the U.S. after Trump's victory.
DeGeneres, 66, and de Rossi, 51, have also listed their mansion in Montecito, California, for sale. They purchased the property in 2019 for $27 million. The mansion features five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms over 8,188 square feet.
The move also coincides with the end of DeGeneres's long-running daytime talk show, which aired its final episode in May 2022. DeGeneres had faced allegations of fostering a toxic workplace on the show, which damaged her reputation.
In a stand-up comedy special released on Netflix in September, DeGeneres joked about being "kicked out of show business." She added, "I have a choice of people remembering me as someone who is mean, or someone who is beloved. I choose that."
Despite claiming to have left the U.S. due to the election results, DeGeneres has cited other reasons for seeking a fresh start. She had delved into her persona non grata status in the special, revealing that she has been feeling the weight of being both idolized and hated throughout her career.
