In a recent interview, White revealed that he was offered a "blind contract with no script and half the pay" he earned when he left the show. He stated that he is not interested in a "cash grab" and would only consider revisiting the character if it "advance[s] the legacy and ... help[s] the kids' careers."

White also addressed comments made by his former co-stars Jo Marie Payton and Reginald VelJohnson, who had previously suggested he was "difficult" on set. White dismissed their claims, attributing any perceived difficulty to his youthful behavior, such as dribbling a basketball on set when he was a teenager. He added that he "digress[es]" if that is the extent of the "difficult" behavior to which they referred.

White's memoir "Growing Up Urkel" provides further insights into his childhood experiences on the show and his relationship with his co-stars. In it, he claims that executives instructed him to change his signature tight overalls for looser-fitting jeans due to concerns about his visible "bulge."

"Family Matters", which aired from 1989 to 1998, was a spin-off of "Perfect Strangers" that revolved around an African-American family living in Chicago. White played the nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel, who became a breakout character and earned him seven NAACP Image Awards. The show also starred Payton, VelJohnson, Telma Hopkins, Darius McCrary, Kellie Shanygne Williams, Jaimee Foxworth and others.
