Earlier this month, Van Der Beek disclosed his cancer diagnosis to People magazine. He stated, "I have colorectal cancer. There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good."

Despite initially grappling with the diagnosis in private, Van Der Beek was forced to go public by a tabloid. However, he took to Instagram to share his story and raise awareness about colorectal cancer, which affects approximately 2 billion people worldwide each year.

Van Der Beek has six children with his wife, Kimberly. He credits them and his wife for their unwavering support amidst his health struggles. "There's no way to get through this without her," he said. "My kids are scared, but they've been so supportive and loving."

Van Der Beek recently updated People on his health, expressing cautious optimism and a sense of healing. He explained his desire to use his platform to raise awareness, as he initially perceived his symptoms as diet-related.

"I've always associated cancer with age and with unhealthy, sedentary lifestyles," he said. "I thought maybe I needed to stop coffee."

Next month, Van Der Beek will appear in "The Real Full Monty" to further amplify awareness about colorectal cancer.
