AceShowbiz - Fans of the charmingly clumsy Bridget Jones can rejoice as "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" is set to hit theaters on February 12, 2025. The film, based on Helen Fielding's best-selling novel, finds our favorite diarist four years after the tragic loss of her beloved husband, Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth).
Bridget, now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel, is encouraged by her friends and family to reenter the dating world. This new chapter in Bridget's life brings with it a love triangle involving Mr. Walker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), her children's science teacher, and a younger man named Roxster (Leo Woodall).
Renee Zellweger returns, dealing with the grief of losing a spouse with the awkwardness and hope of finding love again. As Bridget's friend Shazzer (Sally Phillips) puts it, "You just have to get laid. You are effectively a nun. A very, very naughty nun."
The film also sees the return of Hugh Grant as the charming rogue, Daniel Cleaver, who humorously pokes fun at his former on-screen nemesis, Mark Darcy. "Drinking a pint of London Pride while munching Twiglets and reading about Colin Firth having a critical breakdown," Grant quips in a trailer interview.
The official synopsis captures the essence of the film, "Bridget goes back to work and even tries out the dating apps, where she's soon pursued by a dreamy and enthusiastic younger man. Now juggling work, home, and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son's rational-to-a-fault science teacher."
Directed by Michael Morris, "Mad About the Boy" also brings back familiar faces including Emma Thompson as Dr. Rawlings, and introduces newcomer Isla Fisher to the cast. The film promises to blend humor and heartache, with moments designed to make audiences laugh out loud and tear up.
As the trailer hints, Bridget's journey is far from all doom and gloom. In one scene, a disheveled Bridget exclaims, "I had a full night of utterly mind-blowing sex and it was amazing," not realizing she was on live television, much to the amusement of the audience.
"Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" will be available for streaming on Peacock from February 13, 2025. With its perfect mix of comedy, romance, and relatable life challenges, it's set to be a must-watch for fans and newcomers alike.
