AceShowbiz - Penn State University Police are currently investigating an incident involving Jason Kelce and an unidentified college football fan. "University Police and Public Safety is the investigating agency for this incident and the process is ongoing," PSU Police stated in a report shared with Us Weekly.
The university's crime log has listed possible violations including criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, though it's unclear if the fan filed a formal complaint.
The incident took place ahead of Penn State's anticipated football game against Ohio State. Jason was furious when a male hurled homophobic slur at his brother Travis Kelce for dating Taylor Swift. "How does it feel that your brother is a f***** for dating Taylor Swift?" the man taunted.
Jason reacted by swiftly grabbing and smashing the disrespectful fan's phone to the ground. "Who's the f***** now?" he responded.
Addressing the situation during ESPN's "Monday Night Football" coverage, Kelce expressed his remorse, wishing he had reacted differently despite his anger and disgust over the offensive comment made by the troll.
"I'm not happy with anything that took place," he stated. "I'm not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I just don't think that that's a productive thing. I really don't. I don't think that it leads to discourse and it's the right way to go about things. In that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn't have."
Penn State's head coach, James Franklin, also weighed in on the matter following his team's loss to Ohio State. He seemingly condemned the remarks made by the fan, "I wish that didn't happen. But there's also, in 2024, I love that that person, there was a consequence to his actions."
"Jason Kelce was coming to State College [Pennsylvania], I wanted him to have a wonderful experience," Franklin said to reporters. "I didn't get a chance to meet him or see him. I saw something that I wasn't very, very proud of."
