AceShowbiz - Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have set a release date for the untitled fourth installment of the Tom Holland-led "Spider-Man" series.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2026, opening two months after "Avengers: Doomsday." "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the project, replacing Jon Watts who directed the previous three "Spider-Man" films.
The official release date was announced after Tom Holland, who has played the titular web-slinger since "Spider-Man: Homecoming," confirmed on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" that production is expected to commence in summer 2025.
Holland has expressed excitement about the upcoming film, describing the screenplay as "worthy of the fans' respect" and promising that the writers are doing an exceptional job.
Cretton was originally attached to direct "Avengers: Doomsday," but scheduling conflicts and the trial surrounding Jonathan Majors' exit led to his departure. He currently has an overall deal with Marvel Studios.
The fourth "Spider-Man" film with Holland as the lead has been highly anticipated by fans, with the previous three installments grossing over $3.9 billion globally. Holland has hinted that the upcoming movie will offer a unique and refreshing take on the franchise.
"Spider-Man 4" will follow "Avengers: Doomsday," which features Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Doctor Doom.
Besides reprising his role as Spidey, Holland is attached to a Christopher Nolan movie which is also expected to kick off production in the same year. It is unclear how Holland will manage to film both projects.
