AceShowbiz - Dreamville songstress Ari Lennox has decided to permanently delete her social media accounts by the end of this year, marking December 18, her two-year sobriety anniversary, as her final day online. In an Instagram post on Friday, October 11, Lennox outlined her reasons for this drastic step, sharing a mirror selfie accompanied by a candid and heartfelt message.
"I'm working on a plan to transition off of social media for good," she wrote. "I don't believe I'll ever mature and be happy as long as I have it. So my last day of socials will be December 18th, my 2-year sobriety anniversary. I will be deleting my FB, IG, and TikTok permanently. The fear of losing brand deals, music sales, n****s and b***hes will no longer keep me here."
Lennox candidly shared that her relationship with social media has become toxic and codependent, emphasizing the negative effects it has had on her mental health and overall happiness.
"To all of my beautiful fans, I'm just not happy nor thriving here. I have a very toxic and codependent relationship with these apps. My happiness is worth more to me, than using these platforms to promote. I truly believe I can get creative with marketing elsewhere. I'm so exhausted with my addiction to the internet and gossip and attention and validation and yearning to be in control and over sharing. I just want to be free and complete," she went on.
While Lennox plans to disconnect from mainstream social media, she assures her fans that they can still engage with her content through other avenues such as her YouTube channel, her official website, and live performances. "I would like to offer other spaces where you can find me and that's YouTube.com/arilennox and Arilennox.com and on the singing stage or outside," she added.
This decision comes as a part of Lennox's broader journey towards mental and emotional wellbeing, which began with her sobriety from drugs and alcohol nearly two years ago. Reflecting on her first year of sobriety, she shared, "You see, drinking was my ritual to combat my immense fear of flying…'Just alcohol' could've killed me. I had many guardian angels watching over me that day."
With the departure from social media, Lennox aims to focus on her personal growth and artistic creativity without the pressures and distractions of online platforms. Her courageous step is a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health and finding new, healthier ways to connect with the world.
Ari Lennox's story is not just her own, it's a beacon for many young people grappling with similar challenges in the digital age. Her journey underscores the profound impact that thoughtful, deliberate choices can have on personal wellbeing and happiness.
