AceShowbiz - Netflix has decided to discontinue its series "Kaos" after a single season. The show, which premiered in late August, was a modern-day adaptation of Greek and Roman mythology. It starred Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, who had chained Prometheus (Stephen Dillane) as punishment for meddling with his rule. Prometheus sought to overthrow Zeus with the help of three humans: Eurydice (Aurora Perrineau), Ariadne (Leila Farzad), and Caeneus (Misia Butler).
Despite appearing in Netflix's top 10 charts for English-language series in its first four weeks, "Kaos" failed to garner a significant audience. It peaked at No. 3 with 5.9 million views, a middling number by Netflix's standards. As of Sept. 8, the show had accumulated 3.34 million views in the United States, according to Nielsen's streaming ratings.
Critical reception was mixed, with Variety's review citing an overly ambitious narrative that failed to deliver on its potential. The cast included Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheus, and Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus.
In an Instagram post, Perrineau expressed disappointment over the cancellation, praising her castmates and the show's creative team. She acknowledged the show's unique and ambitious nature, stating, "We made something weird, dark, hilarious, deranged, and absolutely tragic — something entirely human."
"Kaos" was written by Charlie Covell ("The End of the F***ing World") and executive produced by Covell, Chris Fry, Georgi Banks-Davies, Jane Featherstone, John Woodward, Nina Lederman, and Tanya Seghatchian.
