AceShowbiz - Artem Chigvintsev obtained a restraining order against his estranged wife, Nikki Garcia, on the same day Garcia was granted a protective order against him. These competing restraining orders resulted from an altercation in late August, which led to Chigvintsev's arrest on suspicion of domestic violence, though no charges were ultimately filed against him.
Both parties present different versions of the incident. According to Chigvintsev and his lawyer, Ilona Antonyan, he sought protection from Garcia's "persistent aggression" and was stunned by allegations that he tackled her. "He was shocked to learn two weeks after the incident that she made this allegation against him; at that point it made sense to him why he was arrested," his attorney said.
Chigvintsev shared photos showing injuries he attributes to attacks from Garcia, insisting, "He was not the primary aggressor."
The incident reportedly began with a dispute over their 4-year-old son Matteo's breakfast. Chigvintsev claims Garcia criticized him and became increasingly aggressive, throwing their son's sneakers at him, narrowly missing Matteo. He recalls trying to protect Matteo, pleading with Garcia to stop and attempting to remove their son from the hostile environment.
Conversely, Garcia alleges in her protective order request that Chigvintsev tackled her multiple times, pinned her to the ground, and became confrontational over trivial matters like their son's toasted muffin. Garcia admits to throwing the shoes but insists her actions were defensive.
As the dispute escalated, Garcia filed for divorce on September 11, seeking sole custody of Matteo. Chigvintsev responded by asking for joint custody and spousal support. Both are now seeking permanent restraining orders against each other, with a court hearing scheduled for October 21.
This high-profile case stresses the complexities of domestic violence allegations and the importance of addressing men's potential victimization in domestic conflicts. It calls for a thorough examination of motivations and evidence in such sensitive matters.
