AceShowbiz - In a new promo for the upcoming episode of "Saturday Night Live (SNL)", comedian Nate Bargatze mistakenly assumes longtime castmember Kenan Thompson has been on the show for 50 years. Joining musical guest Coldplay, Bargatze introduces the episode and asks Thompson, "You have been on the show for 50 whole years. That's amazing! How does it feel?"
Thompson, confused, tries to clarify his tenure isn't quite that long, but Bargatze interjects, "I mean you had to be 10 probably when you started? Dude, you look amazing for your age." Thompson, who is actually 46, questions, "You think I'm 60 years old?"
Despite missing the early years of "SNL", which premiered in 1975, Thompson holds the record as the show's longest-tenured castmember, having joined in 2003. Bargatze and Coldplay member Chris Martin add to the confusion, thinking Thompson has been on "SNL" since its inception. Thompson goes along with the joke, saying, "Oh, I'm from just behind the door right over there. Yep, born and raised … all my life ... right here, [studio] 8H."
Coldplay, returning as musical guest for the eighth time, will promote their upcoming album "Moon Music". Bargatze is also making his second hosting appearance on "SNL", following his debut last year with musical guests Foo Fighters.
The 50th season of "Saturday Night Live" premiered with Jean Smart as host and Jelly Roll as musical guest. It airs Saturdays at 11:30 P.M. ET/8:30 P.M. PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock.
