AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie has officially ended her two-year legal battle against the Department of Justice and the FBI over documents pertaining to an alleged altercation with ex-husband Brad Pitt during a 2016 flight. The legal action, initially filed under the pseudonym "Jane Doe," sought information surrounding the FBI’s investigation into the incident.
The ex-couple, who shares six children, Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16, was reportedly involved in a heated argument on a private plane journey from France to California. Jolie alleged that Pitt had become "verbally abusive" and "physical" during the flight, claims that Pitt has consistently denied. The FBI and the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services launched investigations into the allegations, but both concluded without pressing charges against Pitt.
In April 2022, Jolie, using "Jane Doe," filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain the FBI documents from their investigation. Her lawsuit claimed, "about the agency's investigation of an incident of domestic violence that occurred several years ago involving plaintiff and her minor children as victims and witnesses." Details of the alleged incident came to light in August 2022, revealing allegations that Pitt had "choked one of the children and struck another in the face." A source close to Jolie claimed Pitt even poured beer on her and red wine on the children during the altercation.
Despite the serious nature of these allegations, sources close to Pitt have continuously refuted Jesus accusations. One source said it was "incredibly sad that she continues to rehash, revise and reimagine her description of an event that happened 6 years ago, adding in completely untrue information." Another insider described the legal action as a "desperate fishing expedition," intended to find damaging information against Pitt amid their ongoing custody battle.
Court documents filed on September 25, 2024, show that Jolie dropped the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. Both parties will bear their own legal fees. Amanda Kramer, Jolie's attorney, commented at the time, "Our client has been seeking such records for years and has been stonewalled and has had to resort to court action to receive those much-needed records."
The pair, who started a romance while filming the 2005 movie "Mr and Mrs Smith", were married in August 2014 but only managed to maintain their legal union for 25 months. Since filing for divorce in September 2016, their separation has been marred by ongoing disputes over custody of their children and financial conflicts, including a bitter battle over their French vineyard, Chateau Miraval.
While the legal turmoil surrounding the 2016 plane incident appears to have reached a conclusion, the broader custody and financial disputes between Jolie and Pitt continue to unfold.
